Emergency Shelter

  • Gillespie Center: IHA maintains 15 beds for men in this emergency shelter that generally operates at over 100% capacity. IHA also provides social services and casework in this 24-hour facility.

  • Hoskins’ Place: This 4-bed emergency shelter for women is next door to the men’s facility and offers the same services. The shelter continues to operate at capacity.

  • Bacharach Community: Located on Wassell Lane in Westport; these three homes provide emergency shelter for up to four families. These mothers and their children are in need of safe emergency housing and caseworker assistance.

Housing

  • Homes With Hope: This is IHA’s initial program providing permanent affordable supportive housing. Formerly homeless, mentally ill individuals and families live with a lease in independent housing. They receive support from professionally trained service coordinators. IHA currently operates eight apartments in our model program.

  • The Westport Rotary Centennial House: IHA is in the process of developing 6 units of permanent affordable supportive housing on their property at 10 West End Avenue in Westport allowing the agency to progress towards the long-range goal of 50 additional units.

  • Linxweiler House: This facility provides transitional housing for employed clients in recovery who demonstrate a strong desire to change their lives significantly. They may stay up to one year in this self-governing environment.

Food

  • Community Kitchen: IHA operates the Community Kitchen at the Gillespie Center and serves 30,000 meals annually. Volunteers from numerous organizations in our community take turns preparing lunches and dinners; breakfast is always available through the resources of our Food Pantry.

  • Food Pantry: IHA maintains a Food Pantry at the Gillespie Center that is supplied by a variety of food collection and donation drives in Westport and surrounding Fairfield County.

Training

  • PRIDE: An intensive employment-readiness program for men and women with significant barriers to employment, including mental illness, substance abuse or homelessness. This highly structured training program teaches job seeking skills and workplace expectations, builds self-esteem and explores potential employment opportunities.

Mentoring

  • Women’s Interfaith Network (WIN): A program designed to support IHA clients and other women at risk who are struggling to create stable and self-sufficient lives. Through weekly one-on-one meetings, trained volunteer mentors under the supervision of an IHA program director, offer compassion, guidance and friendship, fostering confidence and self-reliance.
